Seeing a Physiotherapist (Physio) is one of the best things you can do to help manage your arthritis and the chronic pain it can cause.
Simply, no matter what type of Arthritis you have, a Physio should be part of Your Healthcare Team. Physios are experts in managing conditions which affect our muscles and bones (musculoskeletal conditions) like arthritis.
Typically, a Physio will start by accessing your condition and how it is impacting your life. From there they will develop a personalised plan using a range of scientifically proven treatments and exercise techniques to help manage your arthritis pain.
Physiotherapy has been shown to strengthen joints, improve mobility, prevent unnecessary joint damage, reduce pain and improve quality of life. Physios can also help people who's arthritis is causing them neuropathic pain (pain caused by damage to our nerves), again through a tailored program.
There are a number of ways you can find a Physio to help you manage your arthritis. Firstly you can talk to your General Practitioner (GP) about organising a GP Management Plan. Secondly, you can visit the Australian Physiotherapy Associations website and use their Find a Physio search tool

Arthritis Queensland and Arthritis New South Wales are Members of The Arthritis Movement. Please note that there will be a transition period while our financial and administrative structures are finalised. During this time, we ask that you still donate and make other payments to Arthritis Queensland or Arthritis NSW depending on which state you reside in, which will continue to issue receipts.
